  • Pounding the Table

    Corey Seymour|Nov 4, 2019

That’s the current state of Republican explanations and justifications and bend-over-backwardifications about the explicitly criminal behavior of the President of the United State. If you’re a Fox News viewer, you might know this funny business by a different name, though that name keeps changing: One day it’s a “deep state conspiracy!”, the next day it’s a “Democrat witch hunt!” The latest word-salad—after Trump admitted, in public, yet again, that he in fact did exactly what he’s accused of—i...

  • Today's bullies are online. So is help for them and their victims,

    Tom Purcell|Nov 4, 2019

My sister Kris kicked the tar out of Frankie Leper. It happened in 1972 after Leper, a notorious neighborhood bully, busted up my handmade go-kart, then shoved me into the mud. Sure, Leper was a big kid. But as he stood over me, taunting me, Kris tackled him and pounded on him so hard that he blubbered like a baby. That ended his bullying days. He never lived down getting whooped by a girl half his size. I was lucky to be a kid in the 1970s, in that regard. Bullies have always existed, but in...

  • Letter to the Editor: Get the U.S. out of the UN

    Duane Stahl, Valley City, ND|Nov 4, 2019

After WWII we joined the United Nations— to ensure peace. Has that worked? Human rights was another reason for the UN. It even has a “human rights” council (UNHRC)— with current and past members like Cuba, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, China, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. The newest member? Venezuela! Outrage over the vote for Venezuela was expressed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo: “China and Russia voted to put Nicholas Maduro on the UNHRC.… Maduro is purposely destroying the human rights of every Venezuelan....

    Dr. Billy Holland|Nov 4, 2019

Obedience includes the humble and sincere acceptance of the authority and will of God. It’s not only conforming, but also demonstrating our devotion through our thoughts, words and deeds. The general concept of compliance both in the Old and the New Testament is based upon us yielding our will in order to do God’s will and if we choose to advance in our spiritual relationship with Christ, we can understand a lot more about personal accountability. One of the Greek terms for obedience con...

  • Sermonette: Brave Love

    Rhianne Bowman|Nov 4, 2019

One of the biggest lessons I have learned in college and continue to learn, now that I am graduated, is learning to wait on and trust the Lord. I think in each season of life, God teaches us something new about waiting for him and how to trust him in each area. My biggest challenge and season of waiting in college was trusting God with choosing a major and what he was calling me to. Once I was called to ministry, it was learning how to trust him with that calling and waiting to graduate so I could enter the ministry field. Now, I am graduated a...
