Pembina, N.D. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will adjust the hours of operation at the Antler and Carbury ports of entry (POE), effective Nov. 24, 2019. The hours at the Maida POE will maintain their current hours. The original proposal was to reduce hours at three POEs.
Current hours at the Port of Antler are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The new hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travelers wishing to cross into the U.S. when the port is closed may cross at Sherwood, N.D., located west of Antler or Westhope, N.D., which is east of the Antler POE. This adjustment does not affect the hours of operation at the Canadian port of Lyleton, Manitoba.
Current hours at the Port of Carbury are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The new hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Travelers wishing to cross into the U.S. when the port is closed may cross at Westhope, N.D., located west of Carbury or Dunseith, N.D., located east of the Carbury POE. This adjustment does not affect the hours of operation at the Canadian port of Goodlands, Manitoba.
The hours of operation at the Port of Maida will remain 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Prior to a decision being reached, CBP hosted town hall meetings to discuss the proposals with local communities. Town hall meetings were held on Nov. 5, 2019 in Antler and Bottineau to listen to concerns regarding the impact on reducing hours in Antler and Carbury. On Nov. 6, 2019, a town hall meeting was held in Langdon, N.D. to listen to the community regarding the impact on reducing hours at the Maida POE.
“During recent town halls, local community and business owners expressed concern about the proposed hours. CBP listened to the concerns of the community in determining the final hours of operation,” said Adele Fasano, Director of Field Operations in Seattle. “The new hours are based upon current and historical vehicle crossing data. This adjustment of hours, will allow staff to be reallocated to nearby ports of entry that have a need for additional staffing during busy times with higher traffic volumes. We are committed to work with the local communities on extending hours during specific events.”
CBP has existing protocols to address emergency vehicles and first responders after hours.
Travelers should plan ahead and adjust their travel according to the new hours of operation.
