Track season begins

Relay teams successful at Fighting Hawk Classic

The New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field season has officially started, with a few new athletes competing.

The Rockets competed in the Fighting Hawk Classic at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks on Saturday, March 16.

With the new co-op with Fort Totten, the Rockets added three more athletes to their roster for this meet – seniors Deng Deng and Delray Demarce and freshman Micah Dutch.

Deng competed in the 60-meter dash, long jump and the 4x200-meter relay. Top placing came from the 4x200-meter relay with his team made up of Thomas Allmaras, Porter Granger and Connor Knatterud, where they placed third with a time of 1:37.30. Deng placed 17th in the 60-meter dash and 19th in long jump.

Demarce only competed in shot put, where he placed 66th overall with a personal record of 28-1.

Dutch ran the last leg of the 4x200-meter relay with Jackson Schumacher, Dustin Nystrom and Malaki Kukowski, where they placed 15th with a time of 1:48.51. Dutch also competed in the 200-meter dash and placed 25th.

Other top placings for the Rockets came from C. Knatterud and Granger.

C. Knatterud competed in the 60-meter dash where he took seventh place overall with a time of 7.28 seconds. Granger on the other hand competed in long jump, where he took fifth place with a jump of 19-10 3/4, and also competed in the 200-meter dash, where he placed 10th with a time of 24.08 seconds.

Overall, the Rocket boys tied for 13th place with Thompson, with 12 points each.

On the girls' side of things, the 4x200-meter relay team made up of Katie Allmaras, Lucy Meier, Jaida Schumacher and Emmie Belquist brought home the highest placing. The relay team placed fifth with a time of 1:56.68.

NR-S seventh grader Isla Jacobson placed sixth in the 600-meter run with a personal record of 1:59.80.

Other top placings for the girls came from Jaida Schumacher and Belquist in the 200-meter dash. Jaida Schumacher took eighth place with a time of 28.06 and Belquist followed in ninth with a time of 28.07, both personal records.

The girls' team came in at 16th place with a total of eight points.

Next up on the schedule was the NDSU Indoor, which was set to be held on Saturday, March 23. Results from this meet will be included in our April 1 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
