New scoreboard shines bright on game night

Inning by inning, baseball fans taking in action at Jim Johnson Park in New Rockford will be able to see for themselves the results of the ebbs and flows of Babe Ruth, high school and American Legion baseball games.

The Raymond B. Thorn Post 30 Black Sox debuted a shiny new Daktronics scoreboard Monday, June 24, just beyond the left-center field fence.

To get it running, Post 30 Coach Elliott Belquist said that the board was mounted into place Sunday evening, and since electrical service has not been installed as of yet, generators provided power for its initial run-through to the hardball public when the Sox took on Cando that evening.

The new board features an LED 10-inning boxscore readout displaying runs, hits and errors, and even pitch count columns for the current home and visiting pitchers.

Sponsors for the project included CenDak Cooperative, Yri Electric, the New Rockford Eagles Club Aerie #2923, Ted and Naomi Allmaras, the Elliott and Beth Belquist family in memory of Boyd Warren, Tony's Repair, American Legion Post 30, Bank Forward, the New Rockford Lions Club and the SNR Baseball Boosters.

The baseball display is the second new scoreboard to be installed at Johnson Park in recent years.

A football-devoted board was installed beyond the right field fence last fall, which sits parallel to the back of the northwest end zone in the park's gridiron configuration.
