Superintendent search comes up empty

On Tuesday, April 23, the New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board held a meeting to go over candidates for the district superintendent position.

As required by N.D. Century Code regarding confidentiality, most of the meeting was conducted under executive session, meaning it was closed to the public and the media.

After nearly two hours of deliberation, the meeting reopened for what was expected to be an announcement of finalists who would be interviewed at a later date.

However, when the meeting resumed, a motion was quickly made and seconded to not name any finalists.

The motion was carried unanimously and the meeting was abruptly adjourned.

When asked why no finalits were named, NR-S school board president Todd Allmaras said, “The reason we didn’t make a decision today is because we didn’t feel we have an adequate number of candidates.”

Regarding what happens next, Allmaras said an announcement would be made soon regarding how they “structure the administration,” but did not add anything more.

On Thursday morning, NR-S posted an opening for an "interim superintendent" on their website and Facebook page with no further explanation offered. Their next regular meeting is set for Monday, May 13.

The Transcript will continue to cover this story as more information becomes available.
