Coach Pitch team wins Carrington tourney

We are the champions!

On Tuesday, June 11, the New Rockford Park District's Coach Pitch baseball team traveled to Carrington for a youth tournament. With just one regular season game complete as a team, which they won by one run the previous evening, they dug in their cleats for a beautiful summer day of ball.

They began the day with pool play against Harvey and one of Carrington's two teams. After shutting out both, they entered the winner's bracket for a shot at the trophy. Although they held Carrington's other team to just one run, sailing into the championship.

In the championship they took on the Jamestown Bluejays, the top team in the other pool, which ended in another shut out. Therefore, over the course of four games and six hours, the team managed to hold all their opponents to a combined ONE run and earn the championship trophy.

On the mound for the Black Sox were three poised young pitchers- Skye Kramlich, Jax Demester and Thomas Allmaras. All played a big part in the team's success, stepping up in each inning they pitched. Heavy hitters for the locals were Layton Jacobson, Dustin Nystrom, Charlie Jorgenson and Aaden Benson. Jacobson and Benson took turns at catcher.

The team is coached by senior Nathan Holzwarth, in his first year as coach. Jamie Allmaras and Glen Nystrom also contributed.

They earned a shiny trophy and new catcher's gear, which they enthusiastically preferred to a new bat.
