Track team runs at Ray McDaniel in Devils Lake

New Rockford-Sheyenne made the trip up Highways 281, 57 and 20 to Devils Lake this past Monday to compete in the Ray McDaniel Invitational track meet, held at the Myron Loberg Track at Joe Roller Field.

The Rocket girls scored 62.5 points to finish fourth, led by the efforts of several standout showings.

Chloe Heinz emerged as NR-S’ lone event champion at the McDaniel, taking the 1,600-meter run in 5:56.88.

While the Rockets did not have any qualifiers at Devils Lake, there was one race that came pretty close to that distinction.

In the 400, seventh grader Kelsie Belquist neared cracking the qualifying time in that event with a 1:02.73 clocking to take second, just under one second from the automatic mark. Just behind her was Brianna Price, who took third in that event, to go along with third in the 100 (14.08) and fifth in the 200 (29.37).

Belquist would take third in both the long and triple jumps, and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Another hurdler, Hannah Haley, brought home fourth in the 100 and sixth in the 300-meter races. NR-S’ other placer on the girls’ side was Kayahna Hopfauf, taking fifth in the 800-meter run.

The Rocket boys scored four points at the meet for 13th place. All of those tallies came from Billy Fleming’s fifth-place run of 25.76 in the 200 meters.
