Broadway Santa

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, hundreds of friends and family gathered at the New Rockford-Sheyenne Gymnasium to enjoy the school's annual Elementary Christmas Concert.

This years' event had a bit of a twist. First and second graders sung a few classic Christmas tunes to begin the evening, and then the third through fifth grades joined for a musical play titled, "Broadway Santa."

Amelia Smith starred as Santa Claus, who decided to leave the North Pole to follow his dream of creating a broadway play. Only his big dream didn't exactly go according to plan. Maddie Schaefer starred as Mrs. Claus; Sadie Knatterud starred as Mrs. Hathaway; Kensley Engels starred as the stage manager and Levi Greiner starred as the Postman.

A host of other elementary students also played the elves and Santa's reindeer.

Throughout the play, the elves and Santa's reindeer rehearsed the play before they took off to Broadway for the big show.

However, a comedic sequence of events meant the show didn't exactly go to plan.

But even though Santa's dream of making a great broadway musical wasn't exactly achieved, he and his friends realized that they belong back in the North Pole making toys for all the good boys and girls of the world.
