Cities under construction

This summer, more so than most, has been one of construction for New Rockford and Eddy County.

The New Rockford Street Improvement Project is well underway. On Wednesday, Aug.17, asphalt was being laid on the west end of town. Shown here are construction workers operating a paver on the 1100 block of 3rd Avenue North.

Contractors broke ground for the new James River Dentistry clinic downtown this past week, and a new structure has popped up next to Casey's General Store for the upcoming Rocket Wash, a new automatic, touchless car wash. More on those projects will be featured in an upcoming edition of the Transcript.

Meanwhile, the project most impacting Eddy County residents, at least for now, is the road construction on Highway 281.

Currently, residents of Sheyenne are bearing the brunt of that construction, as work continues on Main Street, which is Hwy. 281 through town.

As of Wednesday, Aug. 17, that stretch of Sheyenne had been completely torn up, including the sidewalks.

For the time being, there are dirt paths allowing folks to enter the Sheyenne Bar and other businesses in town, but the construction has undoubtedly made getting through Sheyenne a tedious process.

Back in July, Ethan Kitsch, Project Engineer for the Hwy. 281 construction project, said work would likely continue until mid-October.

At the time, they still hadn't focused on the stretch of 281 going through Sheyenne, but Kitsch said they'd be "reconstructing the sidewalks and the whole stretch through town there."

The Transcript reached out to Kitsch for an update on construction in Sheyenne, but had not heard back before press time.
