Resources for Veterans: March 21, 2022

I want to say thank you to all the veterans that have stopped by to say hello and introduce themselves and enter the drawing for the fishing trip. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by, please do.

I would like to invite all the military veterans in our community and their families to join us in celebrating Vietnam War Veterans on March 29, 2022. We will be gathering at the Eagles Club in New Rockford for a social hour at 6 p.m.

Long-term care in our community has been a topic of interest recently. Long-term care is expensive, but often necessary. Through the Aid and Attendance program, many veterans are eligible to receive money to cover the cost of nursing homes, assisted living programs and other long-term care options. With the ability for couples to receive up to $25,020 a year, the Aid & Attendance benefit will help take care of a significant portion of long-term care costs. Surviving spouses of veterans are also eligible to receive up to $13,560 a year to cover their long-term care costs.

Family members of veterans in our community have reached out to me about their need to have long-term care right here in New Rockford. I have been in contact with the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd and have learned that they are moving forward with an application to contract for long-term care. This is great news for the veterans and their families in our community. I want to give a big shout out to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd for pursuing this contract, on behalf of veterans and their families.
