Lindquist recognized by N.D. High School Coaches Association

Gary Lindquist of New Rockford was presented with the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Award of Special Recognition on Thursday, July 22 at the annual NDHSCA Coach of the Year and Hall of Fame banquet at the Fargo Ramada Inn.

Lindquist was presented the award for his dedication to Rocket athletics as team manager and statistician, as well as his 25 years writing sports stories for the "New Rockford Transcript."

Another recipient of this year's special recognition award was New Rockford graduate Dave Bass, for his work with students at Valley City State University, and as a state track meet official.

Previous winners of this award include professional athletes Travis Hafner and Darin Erstad, sportscaster Jim Adelson, sportswriter Abe Winter, and officials Eric Hewitt and Jeff Risk. Among those celebrating with Gary were Paul Lean, Andy Braaten, Eric Olson, Jay Schneider, and Michael Sorlie.

The Special Recognition Award first became a part of the NDHSCA Awards Program in the early 1980s when the Association made efforts to recognize individuals in a special way for their services to coaching, the Association's programs, and individual community athletic programs.
