Obituary: Kim Grace

Kim "Sarge" W. Grace, age 67, of New Rockford, N.D., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at the Lutheran Home of Good Shepherd.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. John's Catholic Church, New Rockford. Burial was held at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford. Fr. Reese Weber officiated the service, with special music by Heather Klocke. Casket bearers were Erik Grace, Carter Richter, Jacob Danduran, Chris Danduran, Luke Danduran and Jesse Lesmeister. Honorary casket bearers were all of Kim's family and friends. Military honors was provided by the Raymond B. Thorn American Legion, Post #20, New Rockford, and the North Dakota Army Funeral Honors Team.

Kim was born on Jan. 23, 1954, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Katherine (Gross) and John P. Grace.

Kim attended and graduated from St. Gregory High School. After graduation, Kim enlisted and served on active duty in the army from 1972–75, and served in Germany during the Cold War, serving in a tank unit patrolling along the Czech border. Having served faithfully and honorably, Kim retired from the United States Army National Guard on Jan. 23, 2014.Kim worked for the city of Chicago Water and Sewer Department until his retirement. The day he retired, he fulfilled his dream to move to New Rockford, where he made many good friends and rekindled old friendships.

Sarge was a member of the American Legion, the New Rockford Eagles Club, and the Central N.D. Steam Threshers.

Kim is survived by his brother Greg, sister–in–law Sanling Ran, his niece Amy and nephew Erik, along with many cousins.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents John and Katherine Gross.
