Belquist, Heinz & Ulrich headed to state

The New Rockford-Sheyenne track team competed in the North Central Region Meet in Rugby on Friday, May 21. Kelsie Belquist, Chloe Heinz and Evan Ulrich moved on to compete in the Class B State Track Meet in Bismarck on May 28-29.

Belquist competed in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles. Belquist took first place in all three events, along with setting new records in her events. Kari Wolfe of Harvey/Wells County set the record for the 200-meter dash in 2017 with a time of 26.42 seconds. Belquist surpassed that with a time of 26.01 seconds. Anni Stier of Rugby held the records for both the 400-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles, with 41.59 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and 1:00.91 in the 400-meter dash. Belquist set the record for the 400-meter, with 57.92 seconds, and the 300-meter hurdles with 45.50 seconds.

Senior Chloe Heinz competed in the 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run, 3,200-meter run and javelin. Heinz placed fourth in the 1,600-meter, second in the 3,200-meter, sixth in javelin and scratched in the 800-meter. With her second place finish in the 3,200-meter run, Heinz was able to move onto the state track meet.

Ava Peterson and Katie Allmaras competed in the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run. Peterson placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run, and 13th in the 800-meter run. Allmaras placed eighth in the 1,600-meter run, and 11th in the 800-meter run.

Evan Ulrich and Hunter Johnson competed in the shot put and discus events. Johnson placed ninth in shot put, and fifth in discus. Ulrich placed second in shot put, and fourth in discus. With his second place finish in shot put, Ulrich was set to move on to the state track meet.

Senior John Grann and eighth grader Porter Granger competed in both the high jump and long jump. Grann placed fifth in high jump, and fourth in long jump. Granger placed seventh in long jump, and 10th in high jump.
