This shawl dates back to the early 1900s. Mrs. J.V.N. Sandburg made this hand woven garment in Sweden. The white, black and grey houndstooth pattern with fringed edges still looks soft and comforting to this day.

The mid- to late-1800s was a booming time for North Dakota, as settlers arrived from nearby states such as Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. Toward the turn of the century, foreign immigrants made their way to the prairie from countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany and more.
