Babe Ruth: Rough start for Sox against Cando

With the independent team starting off strong, the Babe Ruth team looked to do the same against visiting team Cando on Wednesday, June 10.

The first inning was a sign of what was to come, as Cando made quick work of the unsuspecting Black Sox with four runs at the top of the inning. The Black Sox couldn’t answer back as they were taken off the plate quickly with three outs.

The second inning was more of the same as Cando added three more runs to their tally and the Sox were again unable to respond. At the start of the third inning the Sox stepped up and made a stop, denying Cando of any scores. The momentum encouraged them to finally get on the board with two runs of their own. Trevor Waldo and Hunter Jacobson both scoring off a hit from Kadon Hilbert toward the end of the third.

Although the Black Sox just played their best inning in the game, it would be their last. Cando shut them down for the next two innings scoring an astonishing seven runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth and final inning.

The final score was 18-2, with Cando winning the first matchup against the Black Sox. Although this game had gotten out of hand, it was an amazing opportunity for this young Black Sox team to see the kind of competition they will be facing during the summer and improve upon their mistakes.

The two teams will meet again on Monday, June 29 in Cando if you want to catch the rematch.

The Black Sox started off with a 0-1 record on the season. Hopefully after next week they will improve to 3-1. The future is bright!
