NR-S Cross Country runners compete at Grahams Island

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and numerous area schools competed in the Grahams Island Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday morning, Sept. 14, which was hosted by Devils Lake High School.

As part of the girls’ varsity five-kilometer race, junior Chloe Heinz came in 14th place overall out of 54 contestants with a time of 22 minutes, 56.34 seconds. Mya Cudworth, a sophomore, was 40th in 26:56.41.

The middle schoolers raced at the 3,000-meter (3K) distance, and NR-S eighth grader Katie Allmaras finished in second place in the 31-runner field with a 13:30.69 time, just under 6 1/2 seconds behind race winner Natalie Becker of Surrey.

In the boys’ middle school 3K, freshman Harrison Joseph ran 13:43.65 to take home 14th place among 32 runners.

NR-S is scheduled to travel to Langdon for a meet today (Sept. 23), beginning at 4 p.m.
