It's time to 'Share the Joy of Christmas'

Just walk into a store, watch the Hallmark Channel, or notice the toy catalogs arriving at your home and you know that Christmas will soon be here. Will you share the joy of Christmas by purchasing a gift for a child who will have little or nothing under their tree as Christmas?

The Share the Joy of Christmas committee now has angel trees set up at four locations: First Lutheran Church, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bank Forward and Community Credit Union, all located in New Rockford. The angel tags on the tree will contain gift suggestions for a child. The children are not just from New Rockford, but live anywhere in Eddy County. Gifts are to be wrapped and returned to the location of the tree by Dec. 5. This date is early, but time is needed to sort and deliver the gifts a week before Christmas.

As another option for the Share the Joy of Christmas projects, donations of winter hats, mittens and gloves can be made, especially for elementary school age children. These hats and gloves will be given to the school to be dispersed to children that teachers have identified as lacking in winter protection. Just place this donation in the box located near the tree. They do not need to be wrapped.

As you hit the Black Friday sales or do other shopping, it is hoped that you will embrace the season of giving and participate by purchasing a gift. However, if you would like to help, but do not wish to shop for a gift, you can help with a monetary donation. These funds are used to purchase gifts for tags not selected from the tree. Envelopes are provided on the angel trees and can be given to personnel at that location of the tree.

Donations can also mailed to or dropped off at Eddy County Social Services office, 22 South 9th Street, New Rockford 58356. Please designate the donation as ‘Share the Joy of Christmas.’ If you have questions, please call Eddy County Social Services at (701) 947-5314.
