New optometrist joins Professional Eyecare

Dr. Kristin Atwood has joined the Professional Eyecare office in Carrington as its newest optometrist.

Beginning her work in the Central City several weeks ago, Dr. Atwood will see patients on a rotational basis with current doctors Kent Fronk and Douglas Frohlich between Professional Eyecare’s Carrington, Jamestown and Valley City offices.

Atwood, originally from Borup, Minn., graduated from Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School in 2010. She finished her bachelor’s degree in biology at Concordia in Moorhead, Minn., in 2014, and earned her Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from the University of Missouri in St. Louis this past May.

She started her career at the Jamestown location in July, and took time off to have her daughter, Ellie, this past month. Her husband, Bill, is a Physical Therapist at Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC).

Both live in Jamestown. “I came on mainly to help with the [patient] workload,” Atwood said. “Everybody’s been really nice and welcoming here.” Atwood lists the services she helps to provide include diabetic eye exams, treating cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

The practice is also part of the InfantSEE program, says Atwood. “It’s a program for babies between the ages of six to 12 months, and provides a free exam to determine if their eyes are developing properly,” she says. “We track eye movement, dilate their pupils to check the back of the eye, and watch out for eye turn.”

She and Bill have another daughter at home in Jamestown, Sophie, who is three years old.
