Eddy County Sheriff's update for September

Monica Thommes of McHenry faces four charges, including Class C Felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, and Class B Misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. She was arrested after a traffic stop on Sept. 8, during which she was also cited for failure to display current registration tabs, driving without liability insurance and failure to wear a seatbelt. Thommes pleaded not guilty to the two misdemeanor charges in court on Sept. 13. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Oct. 11. Thommes was just convicted of four misdemeanor drug offenses in Foster County in May. In that case her 90-day jail sentence was suspended, and she was placed on unsupervised probation for a year.

Richard Hucke Sr. of New Rockford was arrested Aug. 23 for possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana, a Class B Felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor, after a search of his residence. He is due in court on Oct. 11.

Kari Anderson of Sabin, Minn., has been charged with unlawful use of personally identifying information for allegedly using another woman’s name and/or social security number to obtain a credit card with a limit of $9,000. The victim resides in Sheyenne. Authorities say Anderson obtained the credit card in 2013 and had the statements sent to her home and never paid the balance. It wasn’t until recently that the victim was notified of the outstanding balance. Anderson is due in court of a preliminary hearing in the case on Oct. 11.

Seven sentenced for various offenses

Michael Raymond of Carrington was stopped for speeding on Sept. 9. Authorities then discovered Raymond was driving with a suspended license and had marijuana in his possession. He pleaded guilty to the charges in court on Sept. 13, where he was sentenced to 60 days in jail. A total of $575 in court fees were waived. This was Raymond’s fourth driving under suspension offense.

Myron Harrison of St. Michael was arrested on July 12 for speeding, when he was found to be driving with a suspended license, a Class B Misdemeanor. He appeared in court on Sept.13, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. Judge Hovey deferred imposition of his sentence until March 13, 2019. Harrison was ordered to pay $400 in fines and fees and placed on unsupervised probation.

Brittani Janz of New Rockford has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence (DUI), a Class B Misdemeanor. In court on Sept. 13, Judge Hovey sentenced her to 360 days of unsupervised probation and ordered her to pay $750 in fines and fees and complete a chemical dependency evaluation. The incident occurred on Sept. 1; she was also initially cited for care required, but that charge was dismissed.

Dylan Paulson of New Rockford entered an amended plea of guilty to a charge of driving under suspension in court on Sept. 13. Per the plea agreement, Paulson was sentenced to 360 days of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay $435 in fines and fees.

 Heather Hoyt of Carrington was also sentenced for DUI on Sept. 13. She was arrested on Aug. 8 for both DUI and driving under suspension. She posted $750 cash bond on Aug. 9, at which time she pleaded not guilty to the charges. Hoyt amended her pleas to guilty on Sept. 13 and was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail with 20 days suspended and credit for 10 days in treatment in lieu of jail commitment. She was also ordered to pay $1,750 and participate in the 24/7 sobriety program for 360 days.

Michael Lunder of Jamestown appeared in court on Sept. 13 for two Class C Felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the criminal complaint, Lunder was found in possession of a bag containing methamphetamine and a glass smoking device when he was stopped June 22 for failure to have his headlights on. He pleaded guilty to the possession of paraphernalia charge. The possession of methamphetamine charge was dismissed. Judge Hovey imposed a suspended jail sentence of one year and one day. Lunder was placed on supervised probation for 2 years and ordered to pay $860 in court fees.

Todd R. Hernandez of Devils Lake was arrested Aug. 3 for reckless driving and possession/consumption of alcohol by a person under 21. Initially released on a PR bond, Hernandez pleaded guilty in court on Sept. 13 and was sentenced to 10 days in jail, with 8 days suspended and credit for 1 day served. He was also ordered to pay $1,000 in fines and fees, submit to a chemical dependency evaluation and complete any recommended treatment. Hernandez also faces charges in Ramsey County and the City of Devils Lake, including care required and driving with a suspended license.

Hearing to revoke probation set for Delapaz

Joseph Delapaz is due in court for a Revocation of Probation Hearing on Oct. 11. He was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in May. According to the criminal complaint, Delapaz was driving on Eddy County #1 and had an alcohol concentration of at least .08 percent as per a chemical test taken within two hours of the incident. After pleading guilty to the charge in July, he was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet and enter the 24/7 sobriety program. Authorities say Delapaz has not participated in the 24/7 program as ordered. This is his second DUI conviction in seven years.

Warrants issued for five

Andrew Whiteman of New Rockford faces several charges after a traffic stop on Aug. 21. Among the charges are possession of marijuana, driving under suspension and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia (one for each marijuana and methamphetamine), all misdemeanors. A fifth charge, Class C Felony possession with intent to deliver marijuana, has been dismissed. Whiteman failed to appear in court on Sept. 13, so a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Warrants have also been issued for four other individuals who failed to appear in court on Sept. 13. They are listed here, with the charges they face in parentheses: Christopher J. Cavanaugh Jr. of St. Michael (driving under suspension), Dylan Herman of Mandaree (multiple drug charges and driving under suspension), Holly Dockter of Carrington (issuing a check or draft with insufficient funds), Sylvester P. Littlewind of Ft. Totten (DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, making false reports to law enforcement and driving under suspension) and David Skinner of Bismarck (driving under suspension). Brydon, Little found in contempt

Joshua Brydon of Minot has been found in contempt for failure to pay fines and fees imposed when he was sentenced for possession of drug paraphernalia in July 2017. He appeared telephonically from Lake Region Law Enforcement Center before Judge Hovey on Sept. 18 after a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Bryon was ordered to serve five days in jail, a sanction which he could purge by continuing to make his payments as agreed.

Marlin Little of Devils Lake has also been found in contempt of court and ordered to serve five days in jail. Little was sentenced in February for driving under suspension and had failed to make payments towards fines and fees as agreed. Judge Hovey issued the contempt order on Sept. 13.

Several face charges

Frank Bachmeier pleaded not guilty to a Class A Misdemeanor theft charge in court on Sept. 13. According to the criminal complaint, he allegedly stole core batteries and vehicle rims from businesses in New Rockford and sold said items for at least $500. A preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 15.

Michael G. Berry of Towner was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana, on September 9. He is due in court for his initial appearance on Oct. 11.

Lori Northridge-Boland has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Her initial appearance is set for Oct. 11.

Cory G. Greene of Sheyenne was arrested on Sept. 7 for driving with a revoked license and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and/or refusal of chemical test. He was released on a PR bond and pleaded not guilty in court on Sept.13. A pre-trial conference in the case is set for Nov. 15.

Edith Sempala of Jamestown is accused of driving under suspension. She was arrested in Eddy County on Sept. 8 and posted $500 cash bond Sept. 11. In court on Sept. 13 Sempala pleaded not guilty to the charge; a pre-trial conference is set for Nov. 15.

Kooper B. Longie of St. Michael was arrested on Aug. 22 and charged with driving under suspension and possession of marijuana. He was initially stopped for failure to display current registration tabs. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Sept. 13. He is due in court for a pre-trial conference on Nov. 15.

Two set to stand trial on Dec. 7

A trial date has been set for Sydney Dockter of New Rockford, who is charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, minor in consumption/possession and possession of marijuana. The charges stemmed from a May 19 incident in which authorities allege Dockter drove into the ditch and hit a utility pole, causing damage to a passenger in the vehicle. A chemical test taken within two hours of the accident showed that Dockter had a blood alcohol concentration of at least the legal limit. Authorities say they also found marijuana in her possession. Dockter is set to stand trial on Dec. 7.

Douglas Geller of St. Michael, who is accused of driving with a suspended license, is also set to stand trial Dec. 7. Geller was cited on June 5, and he pleaded not guilty to the charge on July 12. Geller’s trial has been scheduled as a backup to Dockter.
