A new home for steamers

A sign of renewal stood amidst the steamers, smoke and engine noise at the 60th Annual Central North Dakota Steam Thresher's Reunion (CNDSTR) last weekend. Construction is underway for a new 5,000 sq. ft. building that will house diesel and gas engines and serve as storage for other equipment displayed at the annual show. The organization didn't waste time after the July 8 wind storm destroyed the Stavik diesel building that stood on the same spot. The walls were framed and the roof trusses partially in place as of Friday, Sept. 21 when the show opened. Work will continue on the structure this fall. A fantastic crowd came out for the activities Saturday, according to CNDSTR Treasurer Ardyce Snyder. "In Miniature Land they were making bales, and little kids were running around the bales. The kids pedal pull was well attended, and the adults' Tractor Pull went until 7:30 p.m. because there were so many tractors," Snyder added. For more photos of the steam show, see our gallery.
