Three represent NR-S at N.D. Girls State

Gretchen Berglund, Sandra Larson and Kyleigh Hilbert, all of the New Rockford-Sheyenne area attended the 71st Annual Flickertail Girls' State, held at UND in Grand Forks. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Girls' State is an opportunity to learn about government while coming together with young women from across the state for a week of growth and enrichment. Berlund participated in the choir, was elected Clerk of Court, and also worked with Larson on the newspaper staff. Throughout the week, there were opportunities to run for state and local government positions. Larson was elected to the Public Service Commission. District 23 Senator, Joan Heckaman, offered her experience to the girls in a town hall meeting. The week culminated in a graduation ceremony held at the Chester Fritz Auditorium. Senator Heidi Heitkamp gave the keynote address, encouraging the girls to reach outside of their comfort zones to serve their communities.
