Bicycle Safety Class set for July 10

Every year, approximately 300,000 kids go to the emergency department because of bicycle injuries. Occasionally, these bicycle injuries can be fatal.

We can work towards preventing injury by promoting bicycle safety. To that end, Eddy County Public Health will present Bicycle Safety sessions for kids on Tuesday, July 10 in New Rockford.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to send children to learn about bicycle safety guidelines and enjoy a snack. The short 30-minute sessions featuring a simple obstacle course will occur throughout the morning. Come to the session that fits your schedule best: 8:35 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:20 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 12 p.m., or 12:35 p.m. All sessions will be held at the tennis courts near the swimming pool.

During the sessions, one of the helpers will fit each child with a new helmet that they can take home with them. Funding assistance for the helmets was provided by the New Rockford Lions Club. Kids who cannot attend and desire to have a bicycle helmet should stop by Eddy County Public Health to inquire.
