Planting for the future

On Wednesday, May 1, students from Angela Tobin's kindergarten class at New Rockford-Sheyenne School walked to the Archie and Jessie Campbell Memorial Park to help plant a brand new tree.

It was part of the Eddy County Soil Conservation's annual Arbor Day festivities.

Each child learned about the importance of trees in our environment, and a little about how they're planted.

The tree they planted on Wednesday is a silver maple provided by Schmaltz's Green House in Anamoose, N.D. Silver maples grow to 50-70 feet tall and feature leaves that turn silver on their underside. They're often used ornamentally because of their beauty, and this one is sure provide a touch of silver in New Rockford for decades to come.
