Sheyenne: April 29, 2024

Last Sunday afternoon, Brandon and Eva Garcia had fun helping feed two bottle calves on the L-B Ranch. They brought popcorn treats to Ian's pigs and Joanna drove them through the pasture to see all the calves.

Neil Westby recently visited at the Larson home. Patti asked for carpentry advice on a summer GRIT project.

Wednesday morning of last week, Stan Kruger brought fresh lettuce (grown in a cold frame inside his greenhouse) and a potted tomato plant to Patti Larson. She reciprocated with fresh baked brownies – a trade she would make any day of the week! Stan visited about scanning some old photos from Chris Warren. An ancestry program on his computer allows him to identify people in these old photos. He determined a portrait of an unknown couple to be Dean's grandparents.

The replacement trees ordered for the Hendrickson Park arrived from the nursery to Sheyenne Gardens in Harwood, N.D. Jon Gilley picked them up on Thursday. Four varieties were selected to diversify the species with northern hardy shade trees at the park – Autumn Blaze Maple, Northern Acclaim Honey Locust, Corinthian Linden and Prairie Expedition Elm. Several volunteers have offered to help plant and water the 20 six-foot trees. It will be interesting to see how they do. The park board will meet on Sunday to consider the details of the grant.

Patti Clifton and Jan Loe had coffee at Rockford Café one day last week. Later, they stopped at Miller's Family Foods and Community Credit Union.

April is National Volunteer Month. Sheyenne volunteers are performing roles in the community include planting and maintaining flower barrels on Main Street, providing rides to appointments, working and serving at bingo, working on GRIT projects, and helping out at school, as well as serving with the fire department and ambulance or filling board positions. We recognize the importance of volunteering and honor the significant contribution our volunteers make!

Bob Hanson and Kathy Albrecht worked the door, Darlene Kolstad served the lunch and Dianne Hanson was the caller at bingo on April 20 for the Sheyenne Civic Association. Blackout did not go out, so it will be $225 on April 27 when the civic association hosts again.

Joanna Larson tilled up the community garden to prepare for spring planting. Last year's alfalfa mulch incorporated in nicely. Patti Larson picked up trash and sticks around the playground, garden and orchard. Jack and Troy Georgeson joined in, picking up branches along the former school yard.

Charlotte Franks Erickson stopped at the Larson home on her way to Moorhead on Sunday. She is excited to help with the restoration/rebuild of the stone pit for the annual July 4 barbeque.
