Margaret Gudmunson

New Rockford, N.D.

Margaret "Peggy" Lorraine Gudmunson, age 80, of New Rockford, N.D. passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Essentia Health, Fargo, N.D.

Services will be held at a later date.

Margaret Lorraine "Peggy" Gudmunson was born March 16, 1944 to Ingvald and Florence (Lindstrom) Olson of Sheyenne, N.D. She grew up west of Sheyenne on her family's homestead, the youngest of 11 children. She attended country school but eventually attended the Sheyenne school where she graduated.

She then met her future husband, Wayne Gudmunson. They lived in several places between Sheyenne and Seattle, Wash. working mostly on farms and ranches. It was when they were in Seattle when they had a daughter, Judy Lee. They then returned home to New Rockford. While living in New Rockford, she worked at Surety Title Company for Bill Lies. She then gave birth to her son, Randy. In 1979 they moved to Sundance, Wyo., where she then began working as an abstractor for Crook County Abstract Company. After her divorce, she moved back to North Dakota to be closer to family in 1984. She worked at the Dickinson Abstract company for 12 years. She then moved to Grand Forks in 1996 until 1997, when the flood came. After being flooded out of her home, she decided to move back to Dickinson. She began working at the Dickinson Abstract Company once again, but had to retire in 2000 for health issues. In 2003, she moved back to New Rockford.

She loved writing poetry, drawing, sewing, sculpting and loving her family. Her faith and love for God inspired so many of her poems. Her love of history and family also led her to write and publish her own family's history book.

She is survived by her son, Randy Gudmunson; her grandchildren, Scott Steel, Greg Steel, Ronnie Nosch, Justin Nosch, Elsye Anderson, Rikka Gudmunson, Lance Ziegler and Judi Gudmunson; and several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Judy; six sisters, Faye Kanzelman, Marlys Peterson, LouAnn Carlson, Shirley Westby, Lily Westby and Virginia Braathen; and four brothers, Eugene, Ernest, James and Loren Olson.
