Success for NR-S at home

On Friday and Saturday, archers took aim at the New Rockford tournament and several local students found success in the NR-S gymnasium.

Layton Jacobson led the Rockets at home and was named the top male archer in the tournament. He shot a 288, which also earned him the gold medal in the high school boys' division.

Jacobson edged Rolla's Connor Cose by two perfect arrows. Cose had the same score, with 18 tens. Jacobson finished with 20 tens.

NR-S junior Bradyn Collier finished in third place among high school boys with a score of 283.

One more Rocket archer earned a gold medal in the tournament. Sawyer Huso nabbed the top spot in the middle school boys' division with a 283.

Jesse Wessels of Midkota-Kensal was right behind Huso. Wessels took home the silver medal in the middle school boys' division with a 282 and 17 tens.

Two other Rocket archers were in the top five among middle school boys: Koy Zieman got third place with a 282 (16 tens) and Gabe Smith shot a 280, good enough for fifth place.

Joe Lindberg of Carrington led the Cardinal archers and finished seventh overall among high school boys with a score of 274.

The top female archer was Griggs County Central's Olivia Piatz, who scored a 285.

Carrington's Hailee Weber shot her personal best of 279 and finished in second place among high school girls. Weber's teammate, Anna Freeman, took the No. 4 spot with a 273.

Raegyn Lange had the top score for the Rocket middle school girls, posting a personal best of 267, and finishing in fifth place. Vera Wittman of Carrington was just ahead of Lange, with a 270 and fourth place.

Caleb Connolly of Midkota-Kensal earned the third place medal in the elementary boys' division with a 248. Cordell Myhre had the best score for the elementary Rockets. He had a 237, good for fifth place.

Emma Mertz led the way for Carrington in the elementary division. She shot a 242 and finished fifth overall among elementary girls.

Other top 10 finishers for the Rockets: Eli Alfstad (278), HSB 6th place; Chaztin Wobbema (272), HSB 9th place; Tyler Zieman (267), MSB 7th place; Camden Rieger (265), MSB 8th place; Braylon Alfstad (263), MSB 9th place; Lora Wobbema (263) HSG 8th place; Hannah Chamberlain (261), HSG 10th place; Taylin Jacobson (258) MSG 10th place; Maddie Schaefer (227), EG 7th place; and Dylan Cudworth (208), EG 10th place.

A total of 298 archers from 12 schools competed in the NR-S tournament.

This Saturday, Feb. 17, the Rockets compete in Cooperstown, which has both a bullseye and 3D tournament.
