DPRCA's 'Deer Camp' opens Thursday, Oct. 5

There's usually one in every hunting party, but this time it's the whole party and nothing but a party.

This fall, DPRCA presents "Deer Camp," a hilarious take on hunting.

Four buddies are set to enjoy their annual deer hunting trip, but this year is a little different. After 15 years of coming home with nothing but a hangover, their wives have given them an ultimatum: bag a deer or your deer camp days are over.

Only one teeny, tiny hurdle stands in their way – none of them know how to hunt! Do they buy one? Steal one? Could they possibly try to ... shoot one?

With this wacky troop, it seems the only ones safe in the woods are the deer, but with song and dance, and a bit of chance, their prayers are answered just as they run out of beer.

The hunting party is a crew regular patrons will recognize. Artistic Director Elliott Schwab plays Digger, the town mortician. Local Jon Johnson brings his hilarity to the show as Moose, the buffoon. Grand Forks native and NDSU grad Drew Relling returns to DPRCA as Doogski, the ring leader and owner of the local hardware store. Gavin Brown of Devils Lake plays Diesel, the mechanic and shell-shocked Vietnam war vet.

"Deer Camp" is written by Gene Jurek with music by Doug Spartz. With adult themes, crude humor and mild language, this is a show to bring your friends and make a night of it.

The run is short, just like deer season. If you don't get your tickets now, you might miss out! The show opens Thursday, Oct. 5 with only eight performances through Oct. 15. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.

Rather than organize a fall fundraiser this year, DPRCA has decided to perform this play. Is there any better way to support the arts than by taking in a live show?

With a full bistro menu before the show each day, and wine, beer and concessions available during the show, it's a great opportunity to have a night out and show your support for the arts in central North Dakota.

Reserve tickets and a table at the bistro by calling or texting (701) 399-9634. Show tickets are also available online at http://www.dprca.com.
