On a roll

Black Sox win two in a row against May-Port, Thompson

The Black Sox have struggled this season in Babe Ruth baseball. Until recently, that is.

During their last two games they've done anything but, as strong offense and dominant pitching has led them to their first success this summer.

Against the May-Port Patriots on Thursday, June 22, the Sox proved just how good they could be on offense. And most of the damage done was inflicted by the top of the Black Sox' lineup.

A single from Thomas Allmaras got things started in the first inning, followed by an RBI double from Skye Kramlich and an RBI triple from Alex Weisenburger. Easton Simon then singled in Weisenburger to make the score 3-0 just four batters into the game.

The Sox would go on to score five runs in the first inning, followed by another three in the top of the second and even more in the innings that followed.

The Patriots, meanwhile, would have their chances as well, but ultimately couldn't keep up with the Sox' offensive pace. The game ended with a final score of 12-6, giving the Black Sox their first win of the season.

Up next was a game against the Thompson Tommies on Monday, June 26.

Starting on the mound for the Sox was Skye Kramlich, who would go on to have one of the finest pitching performances of any Black Sox player this spring or summer.

Kramlich stood on the mound for all seven innings on Monday, and was nearly unhittable from his first pitch to his last.

After seven innings he'd earned four strikeouts while giving up just one hit, one earned run and a single base on balls.

The result was a relatively stress-free victory for the Black Sox, who weren't half bad on offense either. Two runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings were more than enough with Kramlich on the mound, but just to be safe they scored another three runs in the sixth inning.

Some might be wondering who led the way on offense for the Sox, and well, Skye Kramlich did.

From the batter's box Kramlich went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, one walk and two runs scored, by far the best stat line of the day.

Also earning RBIs were Dustin Nystrom with two, as well as Vinnie Ruppell and Jackson Schumacher with one each.

Meanwhile, the team also did well on defense.

The vast majority of the outs recorded on Monday were groundouts and popouts, and the young Black Sox fielded well, committing just a single error all game long.

The final score was 9-1, giving the Sox their second straight win.

They looked to continue their winning ways against Kidder County and Cando on Wednesday and Friday last week. Those games will be covered in the next edition of the Transcript.

Their next game is scheduled for Thursday, July 6 at home versus Hatton-Northwood.
