Dakota Recreation Report: July 3, 2023

Outdoor notes:

*N.D. Dept. of Environmental Quality blue-green algae reports: Low toxin levels – Black Tiger Bay (Devils Lake), Benson Co .; East Stump Lake, Nelson Co .; Horsehead Lake, Kidder Co. Go to the agency website, (deq.nd.gov) for more information and safety precautions.

Tournaments:

*July 8: Lake Sakakawea, Van Hook Arm, Devils Lake, Lakewood Park.

*July 9: Devils Lake, Woodland Resort.

*July 12: Red River, North Forks Landing.

*July 15: Devils Lake, Hay Bale Heights Ramp.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, June 27: No report.

*Stump Lake elevation: No report.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: No report.

*N.D. Game and Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: Continued fair to good for walleye on the east end of Lake Sakakawea but weather fronts could create some inconsistency until it stabilizes. Look for fish to move deeper.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Continued fair to good throughout much of Devils Lake for a nice mix of walleye and perch. Try a mix of presentations with generally fair success.

*Devils Lake, Lakeview Lodge, Minnewaukan: Continued fair to good for walleye throughout much of Devils Lake. Work structure in a little deeper water with slip bobbers and nightcrawlers or pulling crankbaits. Success continues on leeches but they’re becoming harder to get.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Continued walleye success with slip bobbers and a mix of leeches or nightcrawlers or crankbaits. Try Cow Point off Grahams Island. Continued fair to good on Pelican Lake or north end of Creel Bay by the towers. Look for some increasing pike activity. Not many reports from the east side but the casino area remains fair to good for walleye. Howard’s bay slowed a bit for perch.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Some activity on area lakes but a lot of anglers continue fishing Devils Lake with its ongoing walleye bite.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait & Tackle, Jamestown: Some activity on area lakes but a lot of anglers are heading to Devils Lake, which is fair to good for walleye.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Lots of activity but anglers are pretty quiet where they’re catching fish.

*Lake Ashtabula, The Hungry Pelican at the Crossing, Luverne: Generally fair to good success trolling along the weed edges. White bass also quite active throughout the lake.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Continued fair to good for walleye, bass and pike. Nice perch numbers but they’re small and generally non-keepers.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait & Tackle, Garrison: Continued fair to good for walleye throughout much of the east end of Lake Sakakawea. Generally just work a variety of depths and presentations with overall fair success.

*Lake Sakakawea, Indian Hills Resort, Garrison: Weather front slowed walleye activity but improving with stable weather. Look for fish to move into a little deeper using nightcrawlers or leeches. Improving success along the south shore but continued fair activity around the resort.

*Lakes Audubon and Sakakawea, Hwy. 83 Lawn & Leisure, Garrison: East end of Lake Sakakawea generally fair to good for walleye, especially working the mouth of Steinke and Centennial bays. Try 8 to 12 feet using slow death hooks and bottom bouncers with nightcrawlers. Also try west around Douglas Bay in the mouth in similar depths and presentations. Work deeper in 15 to 25 feet on Lake Audubon for walleye.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River tailrace producing catfish from the wing walls with improving walleye success from the rocks. Try crankbaits at night. Boat anglers finding some walleye success but move around depending on the time of day. Walleye moved deeper on the east end of Lake Sakakawea with fish also moving towards the south side along with continued success along north shore areas. Work deeper water and move around using nightcrawlers.

*Lonetree WMA area lakes, Harvey: No new reports.

N.D. river flows:

*James River, Kensal: River stage, 2.96 feet; streamflow, 66.7 CFS.

*Pipestem Creek, Pingree: Creek elevation, 7.4 feet; streamflow, 305 CFS.

*Red River, Grand Forks: River stage, 18.07 feet; streamflow, 5,560 CFS.

*Sheyenne River, Warwick: River stage, 4.2 feet; streamflow, 362 CFS.
