Anderson to assist Harr at courthouse

After months of searching, County Recorder/Clerk of District Court Tiffany Harr has a helping hand.

On Tuesday, May 30, Becky Anderson started her first day as the Deputy Recorder/Clerk of District Court, bringing another experienced civil servant into the courthouse.

Anderson is a native of Bremen, N.D., who worked at Wells County Social Services for more than 21 years before her recent retirement.

She is the first deputy for the position since Harr took over for the previous office holder, Patty Hilbert, on January 1 of this year.

For months, Harr single-handedly managed the two offices, and she said she's glad to finally have someone around to lighten the load.

"There's a lot going on at once here, especially on court days," she said. "The phone's ringing, there's emails, e-filings are coming in, you're trying to be in the courtroom and people are coming up at the front desk.

"It's going to be nice to have a second person to handle some of that stuff so I can concentrate on what I need to."

Anderson graduated from Fessenden High School in 1978 and the University of North Dakota in 1980. She has three children and four grandchildren.

Anderson was an eligibility worker at Wells County Social Services for more than two decades, dealing with social service programs such as food stamps, child care assistance and Medicaid.

"I retired, but I wasn't ready to be home full-time yet," said Anderson of her departure from Wells Conty Social Services two months ago. "So this part-time job came up and it sounded really quite interesting, so I jumped."

She added, "I'm a people person, I like to help people."

Anderson will be working 20 hours per week. Among her duties will be answering phone calls, recording land documents, filing cases, taking fines and fees, helping in the courtroom and much more.

The office of the County Recorder and Clerk of District Court is located in the Eddy County Courthouse, at 524 Central Avenue, New Rockford.
