Granger, Belquist state-qualify in long jump

On Monday, May 16 the New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field team traveled to Rugby, again, to compete in the annual Panther Booster meet.

With minimal meets left before state, the Rockets have been pushing to add state-qualifications to the list.

At this meet, the Rockets successfully added two more state-qualifications, specifically in the long jump event.

NR-S junior, Kelsie Belquist, and NR-S sophomore, Porter Granger, were the two athletes to earn state-qualifications in the long jump events. Belquist jumped a total of 17 feet, 9 inches to clear the state-qualifying standard by over a foot. Granger on the other hand, jumped just far enough with 20 feet, 9 inches.

Belquist also ran state-qualifying times in the girls' 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles to take first place in all three events.

Granger competed in boys' high jump, the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay. In high jump, Granger took 10th place with a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches. Granger ran the first leg of both the boys' 4x100-meter relay and the 4x200-meter relay alongside Trevor Waldo, Easton Benz and Connor Knatterud. The boys' 4x100-meter relay team took third place with a time of 46.08 seconds and the boys' 4x200-meter relay team took first place with a time of 1:35.49.

Also state-qualifying for the girls' team was the girls' 4x100-meter relay team, made up of Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras, Jaida Schumacher and Emmie Belquist. The team ran the relay in a total of 52.79 seconds to take second place behind the Beulah girls' team.

Ava Peterson and K. Allmaras competed alongside one another in the girls' javelin event. Peterson placed in second with a throw of 101 feet, 8 inches and K. Allmaras placed in 10th with a throw of 88 feet, 7 inches.

Peterson and K. Allmaras also competed together with L. Meier and Paige Knatterud in the girls' 4x200-meter relay, and the team placed third with a time of 1:55.85.

Other top ten placings came from Jaida Schumacher and E. Belquist.

Jaida Schumacher took fourth place in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.59 and 10th place in the girls' 200-meter dash with a time of 28.76 seconds. E. Belquist took sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.38, seventh place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.31 seconds and 8th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.45 seconds.

Overall, the girls' team took third place with a total of 73 points. The Rugby girls' team took first place with 170.5 points and the Bottineau girls' team followed in second with 102 points.

C. Knatterud was the top placer for the boys' team. He took first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.87 seconds and second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 seconds.

NR-S junior, DJ Mudgett, brought home both a fourth-place finish in the boys' discus event and a fifth-place finish in the boys' shot put event.

The boys' 4x800-meter relay team, made up of Easton Simon, Bennett Meier, Jackson Schumacher and Lucas Yri took fourth place with a time of 9:35.95.

Yri also competed in the boys' 800-meter run and took ninth place overall with a time of 2:18.63.

Other top ten placings came from Waldo, Benz and B. Meier.

Waldo and B. Meier competed against one another in boys' high jump. Waldo took fifth place with a jump of 5-8 and B. Meier took ninth place with a jump of 5-6. Waldo also competed in boys' long jump and took eighth place with a jump of 19-10.5.

Benz took fourth place in the boys' 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80 seconds.

The boys' team finished in fifth place with 62 points. The Rugby boys' team took first place with 127 points, followed by Harvey/Wells County with 84.5 points.

The Rockets were set to compete at the North Central Region meet in Rugby on Friday, May 19. Results from this meet will be included in the May 29 edition of the New Rockford Transcript.
