Sox swept by Loboes

On Tuesday, April 26, baseball was back in town as the SNR Black Sox hosted a double header against the LaMoure-Litchville/Marion Loboes.

Due to inclement weather, the Loboes were the Black Sox' first adversaries since a tough loss to Carrington the week prior, and they proved to be another difficult oppo-nent for the Sox to handle on Tuesday.

After just 3.5 innings, Game 1 of the double header was quickly turning into a lost cause for SNR. The Loboes had already amassed six runs – two of which were unearned – from six hits and five walks.

Meanwhile, the Black Sox offense had been stymied by Loboes pitcher Anthony Hanson, who had already pitched three scoreless innings.

All that changed in the fourth inning, however, when the SNR bats suddenly came to life. Brody Weisenburger got things started when he singled in the team's first run, then Bradyn Collier knocked a two-RBI single past the Loboes' shortstop.

The sudden burst of offense cut the Loboes' lead in half, and then it was the Black Sox' turn to stymie the L-L/M's offense.

After giving up four earned runs in the first four innings, SNR pitcher Luke Yri bounced back with a scoreless fifth inning, and Connor Knatterud followed that up with a scoreless sixth inning.

The Black Sox' next batch of hitting came in the bottom of the sixth, when the offense scored another three runs and tied the game at 6-6, completing an improbable comeback.

Unfortunately for SNR, however, six runs wasn't quite enough.

In the top of the seventh inning, Blase Isaacson of the Loboes earned an RBI single, giving his team a one-run lead going into the bottom of the inning.

The Black Sox were unable to respond, and the Loboes walked away from Game 1 with a slim 7-6 victory.

Afterwards Game 2 was also looking like it would turn into a blowout victory for the Loboes, as they enjoyed a 10-run advantage after the first four innings. Unlike the first game, however, SNR wasn't able to kick start any sudden comeback attempts, and consequently lost Game 2 by a score of 10-0.

On the mound for the Loboes in Game 2 was Jacob Nitschke, who pitched a 5-inning no hitter against the Sox. The game ended after five innings due to a 10-run mercy rule, bringing SNR's overall record to 1-3.

"I feel we have made a lot of good progress so far," said Black Sox Head Coach Dave Skogen. "Three of our four games have been against two of the best teams not only in the region but in the state. LaMoure was state runner up last year in high school and state legion champion. Carrington made the state tournament in legion last year. We have continued to improve at the plate, it might not show up on the state sheet game, but the approach, fundamentals, quality at bats, and type of contact has improved each game."
