Belquist, girls' 4x100-meter relay team state-qualify

The New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field team made the nearly three-hour drive to the southwest corner of the state to compete in the Stanley Varsity Meet on Tuesday, April 25.

Many of the Rockets’ athletes placed in the top 10 for their events. Let’s start off with the girls’ team.

NR-S junior, Kelsie Belquist, brought home three individual first place finishes. K. Belquist took first place in the 200-meter dash with a state-qualifying time of 24.87 seconds; first place in the 400-meter dash with a state-qualifying time of 58.68 seconds and first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 43.15 seconds. K. Belquist ran as the anchor in the girls’ 4x100-meter relay alongside Lucy Meier, Katie Allmaras and Emmie Belquist. The girls’ relay team took first place with a state-qualifying time of 52.04 seconds.

E. Belquist competed alongside her sister in the 400-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles, and took fourth place in the 400-meter dash and fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles; E. Belquist also competed in the girls’ long jump event, where she took third place with a jump of 16 feet, 0.5 inches.

Katie Allmaras was another top 10 finisher for the girls’ team with a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.72 seconds and a seventh place finish in the girls’ javelin event with a throw of 88-2.

L. Meier, Ava Peterson, Paige Knatterud and Jaida Schumacher ran in the girls’ 4x200-meter relay and took eighth place overall with a time of 1:57.71.

Other top 10 placings came from Schumacher and Peterson.

Schumacher competed in the 400-meter dash and took 10th place with a time of 1:07.61. Peterson took third place in javelin with a throw of 97-2 and eighth place in triple jump with a jump of 29-11.

The Rockets girls’ team took third place overall with a total of 68 points.

NR-S senior, Trevor Waldo, was the top placer for the Rockets boys’ team. Waldo took second place in high jump with a personal record of 5-10, behind Harvey/Wells County senior Gabe Allmaras, who jumped a height of 6 feet flat. Waldo also competed in the 100-meter dash and the boys’ long jump event. Waldo took fifth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80 seconds and sixth place in long jump with a jump of 19-6.75.

Bennett Meier competed alongside Waldo in high jump and took eighth place with a jump of 5-4.

Easton Benz and DJ Mudgett were two more Rocket athletes to place in the top ten for the boys’ team. Benz took sixth place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.54 seconds and sixth place in triple jump with a leap of 38-5.25.

Mudgett was the lone male thrower for the Rockets and took sixth place in shot put with a throw of 39-6 inches and ninth place in discus with a throw of 108-7.

The NR-S boys’ team finished 14th with a total of 24.5 points.
