Rockets state-qualify in five events at Bowman County Invite

The New Rockford-Sheyenne track and field team traveled to the southwest corner of North Dakota to Bowman to compete in the Bowman County Invite on Tuesday, April 11.

Among the 32 teams to compete at the meet, both the girls' and boys' NR-S teams excelled in their events. The girls' team tied with Kidder County for ninth place with a total of 28 points. The boys' team tied with Beulah for 12th place with 16 points.

The Rockets' lone first place finish came from Kelsie Belquist in the 300-meter hurdles, with a state-qualifying time of 42.88 seconds.

Taking second place for the girls was the 4x100-meter relay team, made up by Katie Allmaras, Jaida Schumacher, Emmie Belquist and K. Belquist. The 4x100-meter relay team completed the event just behind Beulah with a state-qualifying time of 52.04 seconds.

Allmaras, Ava Peterson, K. Belquist and E. Belquist made up the girls' 4x200-meter relay team, which placed third with a state-qualifying time of 1:50.48. The Dickinson girls' team took first place with a time of 1:47.99, with Bowman County following in second with a time of 1:48.35.

Allmaras also competed in the girls' javelin event, where she took fifth place with a personal record throw of 98 feet, 7 inches.

On the boys' side of things, Connor Knatterud was the top placer, taking fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a state-qualifying time of 11.36 seconds.

Knatterud took fifth place in the 200-meter dash, just 0.59 milliseconds shy of state-qualifying with a time of 23.83 seconds.

Porter Granger, Trevor Waldo, Easton Benz and Knatterud all made up the boys' 4x100-meter relay team and the boys' 4x200-meter relay team. The Rockets took fifth place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:36.61. As for the 4x100-meter relay, the Rockets took sixth place with a state-qualifying time of 45.68 seconds.

Also placing in the top 10 for the boys' team was Benz in the 400-meter dash. Benz took 10th place overall with a time of 55.43 seconds.

Harvey/Wells County was the other local team to compete at the Bowman County Invite. HWC sophomore, Tallen Thorson, was the top placer for the Hornets with a first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 15.71 seconds. Thorson also took first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a state-qualifying time of 41.23 seconds.

Keaton Keller and Kayl Sieg competed in the boys' javelin, where Keller took second with a throw of 153 feet and Sieg placed fourth with a throw of 138 feet, 2 inches.

As for the Hornets girls' team, Braylee Keller and Christalea Wagner were top placers. Wagner took third place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.16 and sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.06 seconds. B. Keller took fourth place in high jump with 4 feet, 8 inches and eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.27 seconds.

The Hornet girls' 4x200-meter relay team, made up by Aubrey Thorson, Rachel Neumiller, Kamryn Sanders and Wagner, placed sixth with a time of 1:54.59.

Overall, the HWC girls' team took 18th place with a total of 13.88 points and the boys' team placed seventh with a total of 38.5 points.
