Junior High Rockets excel in Turtle Mountains

The New Rockford-Sheyenne junior high track and field team traveled to Belcourt to compete in the JH Belcourt Indoor on Tuesday, March 28.

The Belquist family seems to have the athletic gene. NR-S eighth grader Emmie Belquist was the star of the show for the Rockets, just like her older sister, Kelsie, is on the varsity team.

Belquist competed in the 55-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, and as the anchor in the 4x200-meter relay with teammates Jaida Schumacher, Beth Becker and Kaylynn Chamberlain. Belquist took first place in all four of these events.

Also taking first place for the girls’ team was Madison Hultgren in the high jump event with a jump of 3 feet, 8 inches.

Schumacher took second place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.75 seconds and second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.44 seconds. Schumacher competed alongside Camebria Engels, Chamberlain and Isla Jacobson in the 4x400-meter relay, where they placed second with a time of 5:44.50.

Jacobson and Engels competed alongside one-another in the 800-meter run. Jacobson placed second with a time of 3:17.70 and Engels placed third with a time of 3:19.00.

Also scoring in the top-eight for the girls’ team were Becker, taking fourth place in the 55-meter dash and fifth place in the 200-meter dash; Chamberlain taking seventh in the 200-meter dash and Kaci Weisenburger placing eighth in the 200-meter dash.

Thomas Allmaras was The Flash on the boys’ team, taking first place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.23 seconds and first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.81 seconds. Allmaras also competed in the 4x400-meter relay alongside Sawyer Huso, Jax Demester and Kolton O’Connor, which also placed first with a time of 4:46.60.

Allmaras competed alongside Huso, Demester, and Malaki Kukowski in the 4x200-meter relay, where they placed second with a time of 2:04.30.

Taking third place for the boys’ team were Kukowski in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.50 and O’Connor in shot put with a throw of 33-2.

Kason Nass manned the high jump event and took fourth place overall with a jump of 3-10.
