Cooperstown hospital rebuilds and rebrands

Cooperstown Medical Center has been renamed the Dakota Regional Medical Center.

The area hospital, which has its roots in Cooperstown, has now been rebranded to more accurately reflect its growing service area in North Dakota.

On Sept. 27, 2022, the Cooperstown Medical Center officially opened a new satellite clinic in New Rockford, located in the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd (LHGS).

"Choosing the new name was quite a process," said CEO/LNHA/RN Nikki Lindsey, "We encouraged our employees to consider our mission and vision as well as think about the areas that we serve and then put ideas in our suggestion box as to what they felt a great name would be."

"... In the end, we came up with Dakota Regional Medical Center," added Lindsey, "as it was felt to be a great reflection of our expansion of service area in to New Rockford (Eddy County) and Lakota (Nelson County), and accurately reflected our already well-established service to the counties of Griggs, Steele, Barnes and Foster."

The rebrand coincides with the hospital's move to a brand new building in Cooperstown. The construction of the facility has largely been completed, and Lindsey said they're now waiting on the state health department's approval to start moving in.

"Currently, there are several electricians at the new site working to get things wrapped up so the Health Department can give an approval of the building, fire safety systems, etc., and allow us to start moving things in," said Lindsey.

"We anticipate this approval to be given (hopefully) no later than the end of March," she added. "There have been some road blocks along the way that have pushed our inspection dates back but we hope an approval date of April 1 will be realistic."

Once that happens, Lindsey said they can begin to stock supplies, make sure their electronic systems are in working order, and eventually start moving in patients after a final walk through by the N.D. Health Department.

"We have so many wheels in motion but feel we have a good plan to ensure a smooth transition," said Lindsey. "Hannah Zaun, RN, who was recently named our Hospital Director of Nursing, also has a background in military logistics training and she has readily agreed to take the lead on coordination of the whole move. We are so thankful we have her on staff. She has some great ideas and we are already benefiting from her leadership style!"

Lindsey concluded by saying she hopes they can officially open sometime in April, but will make an official announcement as soon as she knows for sure.

Their clinic in New Rockford can be found at the LHGS entrance near the chapel along 13th Street. The clinic's provider, Liza Ystaas, née Weber, is a New Rockford native and graduate of New Rockford High School with a master of science in nursing from University of North Dakota.

The clinic's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Schedule an appointment by calling (701) 947-2042.
