James River Dentistry wins The Feud

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the community was treated to a fun night of laughter, games and competition at the New Rockford Eagles Club.

The New Rockford Community Foundation hosted the event, which included dinner at 6 p.m. and games later that night.

The evening's main event, "The Feud," filled the room with boisterous laughter as 10 teams of five competed head-to-head in a points race.

The format was essentially the same as the famous "Family Feud" game show, with each team having a team member step to the buzzer, and choosing if they wanted to pass or play if they got the best answer.

Dustin Miller of Encore Events in Minot hosted the event for the second year running, and engaged the crowd of more than 100 people with his witty remarks and off-the-cuff jokes.

After five rounds of teams going head-to-head, the two teams with the highest scores competed against one another for the grand prize, which was $750 cash.

The two final teams were James River Dentistry, represented by Tammy Longnecker, Robert Cudworth, Amy Ellingson, Alexis Irmen and Kendra Leibfried, and Low Expectations, composed of Trista Langley, Laura Reis, Shelby Dauenhauer, Mary Hoff and Amanda Koepplin.

Entering the fifth and final round of the championship matchup, James River Dentistry held a crushing 394-0 lead. Low Expectations attempted a comeback, but only managed to earn 252 points to finish their night, handing James River Dentistry the cash prize and ultimate bragging rights.

Having just won, Amy Ellingson and Alexis Irmen took the stage for the fast money round, and squeaked out just over 200 points!

After The Feud, teams also competed in Name That Tune. Taking home the game's top prize of $250 was team Never Enough Cowbell, composed of Debbie Rost, Isaac Rost, Emma Rost, Drew Pike and Lori Ricter.

New Rockford Community Foundation president, Josh Guler, said this year's event raised roughly $16-$17,000, which is approximately $5,000 more than they raised last year. The money will go directly into the endowment fund, bringing the overall balance of the fund to around $160,000.

Don't wait for next year's event to contribute to the New Rockford Community Foundation.

All donations are fully tax deductible, and the state offers donors an income tax credit on 40 percent of donations made to the fund, up to $10,000 for individuals or $20,000 for married couples. The credit effectively reduces or eliminates income tax liability, and any unused credit can be carried over for up to three taxable years after the donation is made.

Donations can be mailed to New Rockford Community Foundation, c/o New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation, PO Box 775, New Rockford, ND 58356. For more information, go online to https://ndcf.net/learn/community-endowment-funds/newrockford.html.

Interest earned from investing the fund's balance is given away as grants each year to deserving local organizations. Currently, the foundation is accepting applications for its 2023 grant round until April 30. Applications and details can be found on the website.
