Archers compete at home

Yet another home archery tournament is in the books for NR-S. A total of 275 archers representing 14 schools met in the New Rockford-Sheyenne School Gym on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4.

Layton Jacobson shot the high score for the Rockets, a 283, and finished second among middle school boys. His teammate Braylon Alfstad finished third in middle school boys with a score of 279. Koy Zieman brought home the fifth place medal in the division by scoring a 271.

Bradyn Collier and Kyria Dockter made the leaderboard in the high school division. Collier finished fifth among the boys with a 276, while Dockter came in fourth among the girls with a 272.

A pair of elementary boys also received medals in the tournament. August Meier shot a 249, good for the fourth place medal, while Tyler Zieman was right behind in fifth place with a 247. Taylin Jacobson finished third among the elementary girls with a score of 245.

Other locals finishing in the top 10 of their division included Mark McDowell, Jackson Brazil, Kailar Jacobson, Rikka Gudmunson, Olivia Larson, Glenn Skjerva, and Sawyer Huso.

Fourth grader Lincoln Risovi competed in his first tournament ever, scoring a 190.

The top male archer honor went to William Berg- quist, a freshman at Wilton Public School. He scored a 287 in the tournament. Jesse Wessels of Kensal tied Bergquist's score but had fewer tens. Wessels finished first in the middle school boys' division.

Valley City senior Tyana Judd earned the top female archer award. She scored a 284.

Braden Kruse was the lone Carrington archer to place in the tournament. He finished fourth among high school boys with a 278.

Three other Midkota-Kensal archers placed in the tournament: Paige Black, second in middle school girls; Cole Wessels, second in elementary boys; and Logan Hoyt, fifth in elementary girls.

Former Rocket archers Hunter and Fisher Genre competed in the tournament for their new schools in Garrison. Hunter finished third among high school boys with a 284. Fisher scored a 262 and was 10th among middle school boys.

The Rockets headed to Wilton to compete in both 3D and bullseye tournaments on Saturday, Feb. 11. The season is about halfway complete, with tournaments yet to come in Gackle, Harvey, Barnes County North and Rolla. The state tournament is set for March 17 and 18 in Minot.
