NR-S archers take top marks at Carrington tourney

Carrington Public School hosted its annual archery tournament on Saturday, Jan. 28, and over 200 archers from 15 different schools across the state faced off in bullseye and 3D competition.

NR-S archers led in both the boys and girls division of the bullseye tournament, held in the East Gym. Sophomore Bradyn Collier scored a personal best, 287, and was named the Best Overall Male Archer. Senior Kyria Dockter topped all the female archers in the bullseye tournament with a score of 272.

Gavyn Anderson had the best showing for the Cardinal archers in the bullseye tournament, finishing in fourth place among high school boys and fifth overall with a score of 275. Braden Kruse was right up there with him, also scoring 275 but with fewer bullseyes, or tens (13 compared to Anderson's 15). Kruse finished in fifth place.

On the girls' side, Kaylee Barone led the Cardinals with a score of 268. She finished third among high school girls.

Jesse Wessels topped the Midkota-Kensal archers. He also scored 275, but with 12 tens. He finished second among middle school boys and seventh overall. Layton Jacobson of NR-S was the only middle school boy to score better, taking the top spot with a 282. Koy Zieman of NR-S scored a 271, good for a fourth place medal.

Harlie Hoyt also represented Midkota-Kensal well, as her score of 263 was good enough for a third place medal in the middle school girls division. Hoyt's teammate Maya Wentz also scored a 263 and finished in fifth place among high school girls.

Carter Schlecht and Lucas Lytle of Medina also scored in the top five among middle school boys, earning third and fifth place, respectively.

In the elementary division, Nolan Hoffman of Midkota-Kensal brought home the gold medal for the boys. He scored an impressive 259. Hoffman's teammate Cole Wessels scored a 249 and earned a fourth place medal. Camden Rieger of NR-S finished in fifth place with a score of 247.

Olivia Piatz of Griggs County Central took home the gold medal in the elementary girls division, with a score of 251. Logan Hoyt of Midkota-Kensal scored 232 and got third place, and Taylin Jacobson of NR-S earned fourth place with a 232.

The 3D tournament took place in the West Gym, with 12 animal targets and up to 24 shooters in each flight.

NR-S also had a top archer in the 3D Tournament. Kyria Dockter earned the Top Overall Female Archer award with a score of 271 and also took home the gold medal among high school girls.

Connor Cose, a junior from Rolla's Mt. Pleasant School, claimed the top male spot with a score of 285.

Braden Kruse paced the Cardinal archers in the 3D tournament, earning a score of 279 and third place in the high school boys division. He edged NR-S archer Kailar Jacobson by one point. Carrington's Joe Lindberg finished in fifth among high school boys with a score of 273.

Kelsi Neuman topped the Cardinal girls, with a score of 260 and a third place finish among high school girls. Maya Wentz of Midkota-Kensal placed fifth in the high school girls division with 259.

NR-S dominated the middle school boys division, with archers taking four of the top five spots. Layton Jacobson earned the gold medal with 272, and Sawyer Huso scored 263 points and a third place medal. Koy Zieman and Beau Baumbach also placed in the middle school boys division, earning fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Griggs County Central had two top five archers in the middle school girls division. Jetta Coombs earned the gold medal with a 268, and Jourdyn Flatt finished fourth with a 252.

Nolan Hoffman of Midkota-Kensal topped the elementary boys by scoring a 260. His teammate Logan Hoyt claimed the gold medal in the elementary girls division with a 248.

Archers competed in the New Rockford-Sheyenne bullseye tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4. Results from that tournament will be published in the Feb. 13 edition.
