Youth compete in free throw championship

Four girls, ages 9-11 and 13, and six boys, ages 9-14, from New Rockford were named local champions of the 2023 New Rockford Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Knights of Columbus local council #2477 in New Rockford sponsored the competition at the New Rockford High School gymnasium on Sunday, January 22.

All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate. There were also second and third place awards given out.
Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.
All winners advanced to the District Shoot Off held in Devils Lake on Sunday, January 29.
There were 23 participants at the local contest.
Chairman Harry Pieterick expressed appreciation to Father Weber, special helpers Josh Guler, Brittany Jacobson and Ed O'Connor, and to New Rockford-Sheyenne School for allowing use of the gym.
