N.R. Park District to host 'A night with the princesses'

Dads, it’s about time to sharpen up those dancing skills.

That’s because this February, you and your special princess are invited to the New Rockford Park District’s inaugural daddy-daughter dance!

Dubbed, “A night with the princesses,” this event offers a wonderful chance to bond with your princess while building memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Park District Director, Dennis Nybo, said, “I think that it’s something new and unique, and a way for the dads and the daughters to spend their own precious time together.”

The event will be held at the Brown Memorial in New Rockford on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 6 - 8:30 p.m., and is open to girls from Pre K/4-years-old through 5th grade. The girls must be accompanied by a meaningful male adult that’s 18 years of age or older, such as a father, older brother, grandfather or uncle.

The participants will arrive at 6 p.m. for their first dance, before a delicious meal is provided by the New Rockford Eagles Club at 6:30, with more dancing to follow!

And for when the princesses aren’t grooving on the dance floor, there will be activity tables for them to enjoy, with activities such as coloring and bracelet making.

Kayahna Hopfauf of KayElla Photography will also have a booth at the event, where princesses and their escorts can get photos professionally taken for an extra charge. The Pink Pistol Flower Boutique will have a booth as well, and there will even be a booth for cotton candy!

One of the primary highlights of the evening will be a “grand march” at 8 p.m. At that time the doors of the Brown Memorial will be opened to the community, so be sure to have your cameras at the ready, mothers!

“That’s when we’ll let the public come in to take pictures,” said Nybo. “We’ll line them all up on the stage and have them come down and we’ll announce them … kind of like a prom.”

Following the grand march, each couple will get one last dance before the event draws to a close at 8:30 p.m., and before they leave for the evening, there will be “swag bags” with tiaras and treats for each princess to take home.

Registrations are required for those planning to attend, and the deadline for submitting registration forms is Thursday, Feb. 16. Forms can be found at City Hall, at cityofnewrockford.com, or on page B4 of this week’s Transcript, which can be cut out and submitted.

The cost is $50 for each couple that plans to attend, plus an additional $20 per additional princess. That’s right, adults are welcome to escort more than one princess to the dance! The event is limited to just 50 couples, however, so be sure to register while you can!
