No time to graze

Rockets blaze past Barnes County North Bison

The New Rockford-Sheyenne home girls' basketball game on Thursday, Jan. 5 was quite different from the one two days prior.

The Rockets kicked off the game with full-court pressure against the Barnes County North Bison. This led to many turnovers in the Rockets' favor.

Just in the first quarter, Kelsie Belquist scored five field goals just from stealing the ball away from the Bison.

The Rockets didn't allow the Bison to score in the first quarter. The Rockets were ahead 25-0.

Kaiya O'Connor and Katie Allmaras were big shooters in the second quarter, each with three field goals. The Rockets scored a total of 18 points in the second quarter to the Bison's two from Jayden Samek.

At half time the Rockets led 43-2.

After a few more steals by Belquist, it was time for the non-starters to get some playing time.

The NR-S student section roared when NR-S junior, Lucy Meier, scored two points in the third quarter.

As for the Bison, Samek swished a field goal followed by a 3-pointer from beyond the arc. Also scoring in the third quarter was Ahsley Weiss with two points.

After the third, the score was 57-9.

In the fourth quarter, Addison Wallace was found breaking away towards the basket to score three field goals. Also earning points for the Rockets were Tillie Swart with two and Emmie Belquist with four.

The Rockets defeated the Bison 69-10.

K. Belquist led the Rockets with a total of 18 points. Also scoring in double digits were Ava Peterson with 12 and Allmaras with 10.

Samek led the Bison with a total of seven points.

The junior high Rockets also dominated the court over the Bison, winning 48-8. Lead scorers for the Rockets were Jaida Schumacher with 20 and Camebria Engels with 12.
