Boys place three at Rotary

In another large tournament on Friday-Saturday, January 6-7, the Carrington boys wrestlers had three total placers at the Bismarck Rotary, held at the Event Center.

Senior Trace Hoggarth had the best individual finish of third place at 120 pounds, with three pins, a major decision and decision win comprising his five victories. His only loss came to an undefeated Watertown, S.D., wrestler, Sloan Johannsen, in the semifinal round.

At 152, Kael Kovar took four of his six trips to the mat to place fourth. Five of his six opponents, with the exception of one, were from large North Dakota or South Dakota schools.

Corbin Clifton was eighth place at 138 pounds with two wins, which were an opening round pin and a 6-0 decision victory in the wrestlebacks.

For the rest of the Cardinal varsity, the uptick in competition was a bit of a struggle at times. Nic Garber, at 126, was the only other wrestler with a win at the Rotary.

In the junior varsity brackets, 113-pound wrestlers Gabe Clifton and Kolby Zink won all five of their combined matches, with Clifton taking the B and Zink the C brackets.
