Lois L. Brown, age 90, passed away on November 12, 2022, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, North Dakota.

Lois Isabel LaPlante was born March 30 of 1932 in Binford, North Dakota, to Bruce and Edna (Lewis) LaPlante. She graduated from Binford High School and furthered her education at the North Dakota Agricultural College, receiving her Bachelor of Science in home economics. She taught home economics education for three years before marrying Kenneth Wakefield. Ken and Lois raised three children in Cooperstown, N.D. When the kids were older, Lois earned a medical records librarian certificate and worked at the Griggs County Hospital. Lois later married William O. Brown in Hannaford, N.D., where they made their home before moving to Cooperstown.

Lois adored animals, especially dogs, which she shared her home with for most of her life. She also enjoyed gardening, and was known for her beautiful flowers. She was an excellent seamstress, and spent many hours making, mending, and altering clothes. Additionally, she loved hosting friends and family, most notably at Christmas time. She always took the time to bake plenty of sweets and prepare a feast big enough to feed everyone three times over. Red Willow Lake was her happy place, where she grew up working at the resort and later spent summers with her children and grandchildren.

Lois believed in working hard and could accomplish anything she put her mind to.

She is survived by her children, John (Dawn) Wakefield, Charles Wakefield, and Dawn (Tom) Hartl; step-children, Cheryl (Steve) Steinborn, John (Nancy) Brown, Alan (Cathi Christopherson) Brown; and Mark (Marlys) Brown, two grandchildren; fourteen step-grandchildren and twenty-four step-great-grandchildren.
