New home for local stylists

Collier purchases Eighth Street location

The vacant building on Eighth Street that was once home to the New Rockford Transcript, Just 4 Kidz Childcare and Joe's Knotty Pine Bar finally has a new owner.

Glenda Collier purchased the space earlier this year, which hadn't been occupied since the Transcript moved to its current location in 2020.

Collier has since moved her business, "Styles by Glenda," into the new location, which officially re-opened on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Collier had been operating out of the Shear Delight Salon on 820 Central Avenue for around 20 years before her latest move to 6 - 8th Street North, and she's excited for the change.

"I can do what I want with this building," she said. "I can decorate how I want, and it's just really exciting. It's also really nice to be next to the theater."

Collier has managed the Rockford Theatre for more than 17 years, and she said its close proximity was a major benefit when considering the new location.

Upon walking into the new space, customers will notice a bright, fresh and comfortable atmosphere, where they can enjoy getting a fresh new style, or just "the usual."

Joining Collier in the new space is Carly Jo Thompson, another talented and experienced stylist who plans to continue serving her customers in New Rockford. Collier said Carly Jo will carry on her schedule of coming to New Rockford every six weeks.

Soon, the new building will also feature something New Rockford hasn't seen in some time.

"We plan on putting a tanning bed in," Collier revealed. "There isn't one in town anymore so in one of the rooms I'm doing we'll put a tanning bed before winter."

Of course, Collier and Carly Jo will also continue the excellent services they've always provided for residents in New Rockford and surrounding communities.

Both Carly Jo, a graduate of Josef's School of Hair, Skin and Body; and Collier, a graduate of Mr. D's Town and Country Beauty College, offer cuts, colors and styles to men, women and kids of any age.

Collier said there's still a few finishing touches to come for the building's interior, but other than that, the inspection was passed with "flying colors" and it's full steam ahead at the new space.
