Peterson named to top post at Lake Region District Health Unit

Lake Region District Health Unit (LRHDU) announced last week that Ashley Peterson has been hired as its Public Health Administrator. Peterson will take over the full-time role this month.

Peterson earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from American Military University.

She has 15 years of military experience in Public Health with the U.S. Air Force, where she worked in three different states, the Middle East and Europe.

"I believe in responsibility, fearless learning, dedication, and a growth mindset," Peterson said. "I hope to continue to have and build on the respectful environment created at LRHDU."

Peterson is married and has three children. They enjoy the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening.

She has been involved with the community through sports such as coaching wrestling, soccer, and Girl Scouts.

"I look forward to meeting and working with all the residents of LRDHU and protecting the public's health," Peterson concluded.

Peterson succeeds Allen McKay, who had served as the Adminstrator for LRDHU since 2013. McKay retired earlier this year after more than three decades of service to the health unit. Prior to taking the role as administrator, he was the unit's Environmental Health Supervisor since 1988.

Peterson oversees all of LRDHU, which serves four counties in eastern North Dakota, including Eddy. The Eddy County Public Health office is located in New Rockford and is staffed by Danette Schmid, RN, and Lisa Thompson.

Peterson is available by phone at (701) 662-7040 ext. 7 or by email at [email protected].
