NR-S, Maddock agree to terms for football co-op

As expected, on Monday, Sept. 12, the New Rockford-Sheyenne school board was presented with two amendments for a proposed football co-op agreement between NR-S and Maddock Public School.

The agreement originally stated the team’s name would remain unchanged. However, following further discussion by the Maddock school board and community, a request was made to amend the name to, “New Rockford-Sheyenne-Maddock Rockets.”

Discussion of the name change on Sept. 12 was relatively brief, as the room agreed that giving Maddock recognition by including them in the name was a reasonable request.

Board President, Mike Jacobson, said, “If I’m a parent in Maddock, of course I’d want to have ‘Maddock’ in the name.... To me it’s not really that big of a deal. I think it shows just being good neighbors.”

NR-S Superintendent Jill Louters assured the board the name change would not have any monetary impact, as nothing that’s already been purchased would need changing.

The other requested amendment regarding activity passes also required little discussion. The amendment adds the following sentence to the agreement: “Activity passes purchased in the home district will be valid when attending football games on location at the partner district.”

A motion was made to approve the new agreement with the proposed amendments, which was carried unanimously.
