A deafening Thunder clap

M/P-B takes revenge, defeats Rockets in three

After the Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder took a close loss to the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets last season, the Thunder came back this season looking for revenge.

And that's just what M/P-B got: bitter sweet revenge.

The Thunder struck right at the start, with big blocks coming from sophomore middle blocker, Maddie Gefroh, and kills that stung from outside hitter, Allison Thomas. But those two weren't the only outstanding players for the Thunder. Brynn Sorenson and Kelsey Vandeberge also owned the net, with Sorenson taking five kills and Vandeberge taking four.

As for the Rockets, they just couldn't seem to catch up with the Thunder. All around the Rockets struggled; from passing, to setting, to hitting. There was nothing the team could do.

With the Rockets not playing their best, many fans could see how hard the players were beating themselves up. Which, frankly, made things decline more.

The second set went better for the Rockets, with excellent kills from outside hitter, Kelsie Belquist, along with many aces, four of which came from Belquist. The Rockets nearly nipped the set win from the Thunder, only falling two points shy.

Set three had many errors, mainly from serves, giving M/P-B easy points. Gefroh secured the three-set win with a line drive through the hands of Rockets' middle blocker Madisen Myhre. Medina/Pingree-Buchanan's bench jumped off their feet for joy, after successfully defeating the Rockets 3-0.

Thomas led the Thunder in kills with 10 total, with Gefroh following behind with nine. The Thunder's libero, Alaina Bosche, held the most digs with 18. Also in double digits in digs was Thomas with 11. Senior setter, Lilly Bohl, had a total of 31 assists.

Belquist led the Rockets in kills and aces, with 15 and four, respectively. Also with kills for the Rockets were Lucy Meier and Ava Peterson, each with six, and Lora Wobbema with two. Kyria Dockter held the most digs for the Rockets with 12 total. NR-S setter, Kaiya O'Connor, had a total of 27 assists.

The Rockets' b-squad team took a 0-3 loss, along with the eighth-grade team who took a 0-2 loss. As for c-squad, the Rockets defeated the Thunder in three sets. The seventh-grade team took down the Thunder in two, only letting them take one set.

The Rockets hosted the Barnes County North Bison (A,C,JH) on Thursday, September 8. The seventh-grade team competed in the Carrington Junior High tournament on Saturday, September 10.

The junior high teams will travel to Devils Lake on Tuesday, September 13 to take on the Firebirds starting at 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, September 15, the Rockets will host local rivals, the Carrington Cardinals (A,B,C,8,7), starting with the seventh-grade game at 3:30 p.m.
