Rockets outpace Indians at home

Sunflower seed and hot cocoa season is back and better than ever. Well, besides the four letter word we all hate soon to be arriving.

The junior high and junior varsity football teams kicked off their season on Monday, August 29 against the Four Winds/Minnewaukan Indians.

Let's start with some junior high highlights.

With only minutes into the game, eighth grader, Malaki Kukowski, pushed through the Indians' defensive line to sack their quarterback. This set the momentum for the Rockets.

Another star player for the Rockets was Aaden Benson. Benson scored two of the three touchdowns for the Rockets, with him running nearly three-quarters of the field to secure one. He also excelled on the defensive side of things.

The Rockets defeated the Indians 22-16, to start off their season on a high note. The junior high team hosted the local rivals, the Carrington Cardinals, on Thursday, September 1.

Now onto the junior varsity game.

With the junior varsity boys fired up from cheering on the junior high boys, they came out to show they weren't going to lose any momentum.

The Rockets took interception after interception. Jackson Schumacher and Easton Simon were just two of the many to snatch the ball away from the Indians.

Luke Yri flew down the field to score a touchdown, along with a 2-point conversion. Also scoring touchdowns for the Rockets were Alex Weisenburger and Easton Benz.

The Rockets outlasted the Indians 20-0. Next up on the schedule is the Nelson County Chargers on Monday, September 12, starting with junior high at 4:30 p.m.
