Rep. Armstrong visits New Rockford

Congressman Kelly Armstrong, who's running for reelection as North Dakota's lone United States Representative against Democratic-NPL nominee Mark Haugen, visited New Rockford on Wednesday, August 3, for a pair of events focused on economic development and 4-H Shooting Sports.

Up first was a round table at the Rock Inn with city officials, business owners and other members from the community.

Much of the discussion focused on the role of the federal government, health care, the teaching shortage, and the ways New Rockford has spurred economic development locally.

Congressman Armstrong consistently expressed his desire to see the federal government be streamlined and release more responsibilities to states, particularly as it relates to grants and permits.

Later in the afternoon, the congressman drove out to the Rod and Gun Club north of New Rockford, where he took questions about some of the nation's most divisive topics - such as the impact of vaccines on military recruitment, border security, red flag laws and voter fraud.

The event began, however, with a simple contest between Armstrong and one lucky member of 4-H Shooting Sports, with a whopping $5 on the line for whoever shot best.

It was close, but the congressman shot just well enough to come out on top. Armstrong was handed his hard-earned $5, which he then passed onto his young opponent along with a signed copy of the targets.
